Considered one of the most beautiful wild rivers in America, the MISHTA-SHIPU (Moisie) river flows through 400 meters deep gorges. A true gem of natural heritage, this world-renowned salmon river was once used as a channel of communication by First Nations peoples. It is in this exceptional setting that we invite the coureurs des bois of modern times to live the great adventure. To venture off the beaten track and see what few will ever have the chance to see.
Our six-day package offers to SUP's paddlers and kayarafters a long incursion into the forest following the river: 120 km of river slipping along with the currents while admiring peaceful coniferous forests. To listen to the murmur of the streams and to bivouac in the middle of nature in the immensity of Inu's territory. The challenge? Exciting rapids, narrow passages, an impressive river flow. Beyond sporting exaltation, an expedition is also a spirit of camaraderie that brings the group together in the evening, after a good meal, around the campfire to recall the anecdotes of the day or to remake the world under the stars. As a bonus, air quality and exceptional silence! Get out of the ordinary and come to live an unforgettable experience by measuring yourself on the elements on one of the last wild rivers of the North Shore.
Day 1: Fly in trip to the expedition's starting point / outfitter base camp of the Haute Moisie
From Lake Rapide, Sept-Îles, Quebec the week begins with a seaplane flight of some thirty minutes through astonishing beauty. The cliffs of the deep valley of MISHTA-SHIPU (Moisie) rise up in all their slendor, overwhelming the curious onlooker by their greatness. The flight end at the Pourvoirie de la Haute- Moisie, the starting point of the expedition, 130 kilometers upstream from the St. Lawrence River. I
Day 2-3: 60 kilometers of pure delight: 8 x rapids class 2 whitewater. Light effort.
During these two days, the Moisie unfolds in all its splendor. The water flows but without great tumult, which allows the paddlers to progress with confidence and to perfect their technique under the expert eye of the guides of ABV Kayak. Between two kayak sessions, treks in the forest allow you to admire the MISHTA-SHIPU (Moisie) from its foothills, where you can easily see a bald eagle hunt the young salmon, a black bear snack wild berries or a moose drink at the turn of a river bend.
Day 4: 15 km, 1 x rapid R4 (portage). Moderate effort.
After three days of practice, time has come to compete with the "Cran Serré". Here, the MISHTA-SHIPU (Moisie) shows a completely different face. The banks narrow and the current accelerates as strong surging waves rise after a drastic right turn. Enthusiasts will be delighted by this impressive speed. Those who prefer to stay dry will be able to bypass this segment by a short portage. After all, someone must immortalize the brave paddlers! At the foot of the rapids, a large island of blond sand becomes the ideal place to share the evening meal and to remember the highlights of the day. At bedtime, the echo of the rapids accompanies the athletes in their well deserved rest.
Day 5-6: 53 kilometers, 10 x rapids, R1- R2, 1 x rapid R3 (portage). Moderate effort.
On the fifth day, the river is calmer, just before propelling the paddlers into the most sporty section of the week. Experienced paddlers are enjoying this series of class 2 and 3 rapids that begin with the famous "Langue de grenouille". A great way to spark the desire to explore, along with ABV Kayak, another river where the challenge is even more exhilarating!
