Moisie River Adventure
Trip length: 6 days
Trip availability: June to September
A challenging yet safe trip for both rafters and kayakers. ABV invites you to join us! Be daring, bold, and live the thrill of a lifetime on one of the most magnificent rivers in Quebec.
This is a 120km (75 mile) rafting & kayaking adventure on the Moisie River on Quebec's northern coast. Also known as "The Nahini of the East", the Moisie River is one of Quebec's largest and longest rivers flowing over 400km (250 miles) from the Labrador plateau to the Gulf of St-Lawrence. For thousands of years, the Innu of Quebec and Labrador used the Moisie River as a portage route to their winter hunting grounds. Your experience will be much the same as the explorers of yesterday but with a modern twist. Along with your professional guide and specialized equipment you will have the opportunity to run the rapids that early explorers had to avoid.

Itinerary
Day 1: Visit of the "Pourvoirie de la Haute-Moisie" and the migratory fish-ladder
You'll have a bird's-eye view
of the Moisie River Valley's
stunning beauty during the
30-minute flight from Lake
Rapide in Sept-Iles to the
"Pourvoirie de la
Haute-Moisie", 120 kilometers
upstream from the St-Lawrence
River. This is the starting point of our six day
Moisie River expedition. Once on site, an outing
is organized to visit the
migratory fish-ladder located a
few kilometers away, where
you can see how the Atlantic
Salmon make their way to the spawning
grounds.
Days 2 - 3: 60 km of pure delight: 8 rapids, R3 white water
Two days where the "Moisie"
ceaselessly displays its
magnificence. Its water runs
briskly but without major
obstacles which allows kayakers
and rafters to move with ease
while improving techniques
under expert supervision from
ABV guides. Between two
sections of whitewater,
trekking in the boreal
highlands provides a
spectacular view of massive
canyons where the walls rise
almost a thousand feet above
the river. From this vantage point, it's
not unusual to observe a bald
eagle hunting salmon in the
river, a black bear feeding on
wild berries or a moose quietly
drinking along the riverside.
Day 4: 15 km, 1 rapid, R4
After three days of practice,
the time has come to face the
"Tight notch" or "Cran
Serré" rapid. Here the
Moisie River shows its rugged
face: the pass narrows, the
currents increase, and huge
crashing waves wait after a
sharp right turn. Those seeking
an adrenaline rush will be
thrilled over this challenging
rapid. If you prefer to stay
dry, you will be able to go
around this segment with a
short portage. After all,
someone has to capture the
performances of the group on
film! At the end of the rapid a
sandy island awaits, which
turns out to be a great place
to enjoy a hearty meal and
retell the day's experiences by
the campfire. Night time is
accompanied by the echo of the
rapid and guarantees a peaceful
and restful sleep.
Days 5-6: 53 km, 10 rapids, R1 to R4
The fifth day begins with some light
rapids, then gradually the river
changes into one of the most
adventurous sections of the
week. With the experience you
gained over the past days,
you can confidently tackle the
R-III and R-IV waves that open
the famous "Frog's tongue"
section.
Your safety and the environment
is of primary concern.
During any ABV Kayak &
Excursions adventure, only
experienced professional
rafting guides with up-to-date
