Magpie River Adventure
Trip length: 6 days
Trip availability: June to September
Rated 6th best white water rafting trip in the world by iExplore.com
this "fly-in fly-out" expedition takes you on the best rafting/kayaking sections of the Magpie River.
World-class rapids, fishing and
wildlife combined with impeccable
scenery make the Magpie River one
of Quebec's most popular adventure
expedition destinations. Flowing
200km (125 miles) from the Labrador
plateau, the Magpie carves its way
through granite canyons with the
Taïga forest overhead then
finally spilling into the gulf of
St-Lawrence.
Flying on to Magpie lake in a de
Havilland Otter or Beaver is an
experience in itself, thus starting
this 55km (35 mile) adventure.
Class III, IV and V rafting and
kayaking sections are around every
turn. Trout fishing and hiking
between rapids allows the scenery
to sink in. Nutritious meals
catering to any diet will give you
the energy to tackle the rapids. In
addition, eco-friendly wilderness
camping make this multi-day trip
both challenging and pleasurable
for even the most refined
adventurer.

Itinerary
Day 1 : Rendez-vous in Havre St-Pierre
This day is spent getting to know the village and getting to know your guides, in addition to exploring the many optional activities Havre St-Pierre has to offer: scuba diving, sea kayaking, and gourmet seafood dining.
Day 2 : Float Plane to Magpie Lake
After breakfast, pack your gear and yourself into a float plane for a 50-minute trip over alpine lakes and untouched forest. Upon landing on Magpie Lake, your adventure takes shape with your guide introducing the trip itinerary, and all the equipment required for a safe journey. A few Class III rapids take you to the first campsite where you relax with some fishing/exploring while the guides set camp and prepare meals.
Days 3-5: Excitement Personified
The next few days are spent navigating some the the more difficult sections of the river, with long Class III and IV sections every day. Tall tales by the campfire, good food and camaraderie will make for lasting memories.
Day 6: Wrapping Up
After the last Class IV section the trip winds down with a gentle paddle to the take out point. While waiting for the float plane, your guide will take you on a hike to a spectacular waterfall. Your return to civilization is celebrated with an authentic Quebec style seafood dinner.
