Koroc River Adventure
Trip duration : 15 days
Available from : July to August
In partnership with : www.nunavikparks.ca
"The 160-kilometre Koroc River flows through a broad valley from the
precipitous Torngat Mountains to Ungava Bay. The Koroc River valley is an oasis
of boreal forest in an otherwise rugged arctic zone."
The Koroc has a flow equivalent to that of the Rouge River, although its bed is
wider. Because of its location in the tundra, the rivers flow fluctuates
according to rain, which is frequent. In the Ungava region the weather changes
quickly and frequently. The conditions on the Koroc River are less severe than on the
western side of Ungava Bay, but the fact remains that the wind is always master
of this "country".
A river of exceptional scenery, the Koroc River is easy to navigate. The first 50 km
are comprised of sandy beaches and shallow boulder gardens. Afterwards the
Koroc offers up some more challenging rapids of class II to class IV ledges
with easy portages.
