Broadback River Adventure
Trip length: 6 days
Trip availability: June to September
Located in the James Bay basin, the Broadback River offers you the opportunity to experience an extraordinary adventure in kayaking, rafting, camping and fishing. One of the best wilderness whitewater trips in Quebec; it is little known and little traveled. Filled with impressive rapids, our 6-day itinerary covers more than 73 km on this river.
The Broadback is approximately
435 km of wild, untamed river
flowing from lake Trovlus,
through Lake Quénomisca and
Evans area, and finally into James Bay,
near the Cree village of
Waskaganish. Waskaganish, also known as Fort
Rupert, was the first
trading post built by
Pierre-Esprit Radisson et
Médart Chouart, sieur Des
Groseillers in 1668.
The Cree
people call this river
"Chistamiskau Sipi" or deep
river and "Matauchun Sipi",
river where water goes in
different directions. You will
also experience the magnificent
landscapes of Quebec's northern
region and the fauna and flora
of the Taïga forest. This area
has a legendary
reputation for trophy pike and
walleye fishing.
